Whole-of-Health Pharmaceutical Care for Active People

Most athletes and active people never see a pharmacist as part of their care team — not because they don’t need one, but because until now, access to one simply didn’t exist in settings like this.

Geelong Sports Medicine Centre is one of the only sports medicine facilities in regional Australia to offer a dedicated sports pharmacy service. Working directly alongside our sports doctors, physiotherapists, and allied health team, Emily Shears provides specialist pharmaceutical care that looks at the whole picture — your medications, your supplements, your surgical journey, and your health conditions — in the full context of your rehab, training or performance goals.

What We Offer

Whole-of-medication review — assessing all prescribed medications, over-the-counter products, and supplements together
Pre-operative medication and supplement support — identifying what to pause, adjust, or flag ahead of surgery
Post-operative medication management — safely supporting recovery alongside your GSMC rehabilitation
Chronic condition management for active people — including asthma, ADHD, diabetes, thyroid disorders, iron deficiency, and cardiovascular conditions
Anti-doping and WADA compliance — evidence-based guidance on medications and supplements for drug-tested athletes
Supplement safety and efficacy review — cross-referencing your stack against the AIS ABCD Framework and HASTA certification database
Female athlete health — hormonal health, menstrual cycle and performance, bone health, contraception, and RED-S
Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) support — in conjunction with our sports medicine doctors
Club and team education sessions — supplement literacy, anti-doping awareness, and duty of care for coaches

What to Expect

A sports pharmacy consultation at GSMC is a clinical conversation — thorough, practical, and tailored to you. Emily will review your complete medication and supplement profile, ask about your training, your sport, and any upcoming procedures, and work through your individual needs with care and precision.

Your consultation may cover:

A complete review of your current medications and supplements
Cross-referencing your supplement stack against the AIS ABCD Framework and HASTA database
Identification of any drug-supplement or drug-drug interactions relevant to your sport and training
Anti-doping risk assessment for your specific sport and governing body rules
Medication management recommendations in collaboration with your doctor
Personalised guidance on evidence-based supplements appropriate to your goals and training phase
Guidance on how to use the Sport Integrity Australia Clean Sport App

No referral is required to see Emily. Sports pharmacy consultations are available by appointment.

Supplement Safety — Know What You’re Taking

Important: WADA and Sport Integrity Australia do not certify or endorse any supplement products. HASTA certification is the recognised Australian standard for independent testing.
